Bet Types Guide: Singles, Accas and Systems — IBC22
Single bets and the main bet types
If you are new, the single is the place to begin, just as it was for every experienced bettor. You back a single outcome, and that pick on its own settles your return. Bet types are normally grouped under singles, combinations and system formats.
Before exploring other formats, learn the gap between singles and parlays. Keeping a bet single isolates the risk; connecting picks in a combined format changes both how much it could pay and how probable a payout is.
Accumulator bets: how they work
An accumulator combines several selections into one wager, and every leg must win for the bet to pay out. The odds of each pick are multiplied together, which is why the potential return grows so quickly.
It is easy to see why accumulators attract bettors, yet the downside is just as plain: a single failed leg wipes out the entire bet. Keep them brief, resist piling on selections merely to boost the odds, and use them now and then instead of every day.
Handicap and over/under markets
Handicap betting balances an uneven contest by giving one side an imaginary advantage or disadvantage. It is worth considering whenever the favourite's normal price looks too low to justify a bet.
In the over/under market, the final result is irrelevant. Your prediction concerns a match statistic, generally goals or points, and whether it finishes higher or lower than the line that has been set. Many bettors like totals because they hinge on how both teams approach the game.
System bets and choosing your format
What sets a system bet apart is that it includes several combinations of your selections at the same time. As a result, one failed pick won't automatically ruin the slip. You get a smaller return than a full accumulator offers, in exchange for a buffer that careful players appreciate.
There's no format that wins for everybody. If control matters most, singles are the sensible route; if bigger swings appeal, a few combined picks will deliver them. Base the choice on your style and bankroll, and alter it only when your approach genuinely evolves.
